Job summary

NHS Tayside is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Scottish Bowel Screening Laboratory team based at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. You will support receipt, preparation and processing of faecal sample kits in a busy environment.

The role involves following laboratory procedures, maintaining quality standards and working closely with a team to handle a high-volume workload. Training is provided to develop essential skills and contribute to public health services in Scotland.

Qualifications

  • Reliable, organised and accurate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and good communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Previous laboratory experience is advantageous, but full training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, sort and prioritise faecal sample kits for laboratory testing.
  • Prepare samples and associated documentation in accordance with laboratory procedures.
  • Safely dispose of clinical samples and waste materials.
  • Undertake a range of routine laboratory duties to support service delivery.
  • Assist with quality management activities and compliance with laboratory standards.
  • Work effectively as part of a team to manage a high-volume workload, processing thousands of items each day.
