Job summary

NHS National Services Scotland is recruiting a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) for the Blood Processing and Distribution Department in Edinburgh. Full training will be provided; prior healthcare or manufacturing experience is advantageous.

You will work in a processing environment handling whole blood and apheresis collections, ensuring GMP and accurate records while performing stock movement and IT system tasks.

Qualifications

• Organised and enthusiastic with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Scrupulous attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to work in Grade D environments and temperature-controlled spaces.
• Experience in healthcare or manufacturing environments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture blood components from whole blood and apheresis collections.
• Distribute components to hospital blood banks across Scotland.
• Handle biohazard materials in a Processing environment following GMP.
• Perform stock control, record completion, and operate IT software systems.
• Work as part of a team and take calls as required.
