Job summary

NHS Scotland seeks a Medical Secretary (Band 4) for the Pathology Department at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. The role is full-time, 36 hours per week, Mon–Fri, based in Dundee, with responsibilities including authorising pathology reports and coordinating meetings.

Ideal candidates will have an HNC in Office Administration or equivalent NHS Cellular Pathology admin experience, strong keyboard skills, and proficiency in MS Word, with good interpersonal and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and authorise pathology reports from digital files and handwritten notes.
  • Prepare for consultant led multidisciplinary meetings and liaise with external reporting services.
  • Requisitioning using electronic systems and taking/transcribing minutes from meetings.
  • Supervise Clerical Officer staff and prioritise workload for service provision.

Applications are invited for the above full-time, permanent post based in the Pathology Department, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

The successful applicant will be required to produce and authorise pathology reports from digital files and handwritten notes, prepare for consultant led multidisciplinary meetings, liaise with external reporting services, requisitioning using electronic systems, take and transcribe minutes from meetings and supervise Clerical Officer staff ensuring workload is prioritised accordingly for service provision.

Knowledge of Cellular Pathology medical terminology, excellent keyboard skills and experience of Microsoft Word packages are essential. In addition, it would be desirable for applicants to have had exposure to taking and transcribing minutes, have good interpersonal and organisational skills and be able to work as part of a team.

Applicants will have an HNC in Office Administration or an equivalent level of experience in an NHS Cellular Pathology Admin role.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience of working in a busy, progressive Cellular Pathology Laboratory Office within a large Teaching Hospital.
