Job summary

MDL Marinas Ltd at Northney Marina (Hayling Island) seeks a Boatyard Supervisor to lead day-to-day boatyard operations, support marina activities and ensure a high standard of service. The role is full-time with 8-hour shifts (8am–5pm), Monday to Friday, including induction training.

You will drive customer service excellence, liaise with tenants weekly, and develop revenue opportunities while upholding health and safety and company policies, building a motivated team.

Qualifications

• Experience in a customer service environment (leisure/marina/hospitality advantageous).
• Knowledge of health and safety in the workplace.
• Educated to at least GCSE level or equivalent.
• Ability to work without supervision and be self-motivated.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operation of the boatyard.
• Be part of the Marina leadership team and support marina and boatyard operations.
• Develop revenue generation and growth projects linked to boatyard services.
• Liaise with tenants on a minimum weekly basis to communicate needs and issues.
• Represent the company with external suppliers and organisations to maximise advantages.
• Ensure compliance with legal, HSE and company policies.

Job description

Situated in Hayling Island, Northney Marina is a busy and high-profile visitor destination. We aim to deliver the highest level of service and experience for our visitors and customers, demanding the very best from ourselves whilst working as a team every day. To help us deliver exceptional service we are seeking to recruit a Boatyard Supervisor to assist with marina operations at Northney Marina.

You will be passionate about providing the best possible levels of customer service and will put the safety and the needs of the customer first every time. You will deliver outstanding customer experience, exceeding expectations daily. This is a full-time position working 8-hour shifts, 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday supporting the marina operations activities. The successful applicant will be required to attend various training in the initial period of employment as part of a full induction process.

The role will include but not limited to:

• To be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the boatyard.
• To be part of the Marina leadership team and support all elements of the operation across the marina and boatyard.
• To represent the best interests of Marina Developments at all levels whilst developing the business to make best financial use of the assets.
• To build and develop an engaged and motivated team with a flexible work ethic that is passionate about and enabled to deliver world class customer service.
• Deliver operational process and systems in accordance with the quality management systems of the MDL Way.
• To liaise with tenants on a minimum weekly basis ensuring effective communication at all times; understanding their requirements and keeping them informed of any relevant issues at your site.
• In conjunction with the Marina Manager, develop revenue generation and growth projects to include boat yard services development and best fit products driven by local market conditions; to include Boatyard zoning to maximise potential income.
• To represent the company’s interest with external suppliers or organisations to the best possible advantage.
• To instil in your teams an ethos of flexible working hours driven by business demand.
• To ensure all legal, HSE and company policies inc. financial are being adhered to.

The key requirements for this role are but not limited to:

• Enthusiastic and friendly with a flexible and positive ‘can do’ attitude
• Previous experience in a customer service environment (in a leisure/marina/hospitality industry an advantage)
• General maintenance skills (not essential but an advantage)
• Self-motivated and able to work without supervision
• Sound awareness of basic health and safety in the workplace
• Confident use of IT systems
• A practical, resourceful and common-sense approach
• Good practical boating skills/qualifications (not essential but an advantage)
• Educated to at least GCSE level or equivalent
