Job description

Would you like the opportunity to develop Scotland’s First Sanctuary Gardens dedicated to Peace; a greenspace that supports biodiversity and community?

We’re looking for people to help us shape the next five years as a community-led resource. The Gardens are located in South Glasgow and while most board members are from Glasgow, some provide specialist skills or knowledge but live outside the city.

The board meets at least 5 times per year and also gets involved in subgroups or steering groups around specific themes. We are looking for 4 or 5 new people to join.

Could you help us continue to bring quality live music to the under-served Borders region? Would you like to play a key leadership role in supporting the future of a world-class chamber music festival?

We are currently open to applications for a Chair to lead our Board of Trustees when our current Chair stands down in October. Previous governance experience is less essential than a passion for the Arts. We especially welcome applicants with a connection to the Scottish Borders/Northumberland. See attached document for full details.

This is a great opportunity to lead one of Scotland’s key heritage organisations based in the Trust’s dedicated office at the charitable hub in Stirling, next to the HES Engine Shed.

This post is being advertised as the current Trust Manager is retiring in late summer/early autumn 2025. It is anticipated that there will be some overlap to enable a smooth handover. The start date for the successful applicant is flexible, likely August or September 2025.

As Trust Manager, you would:

  1. Be responsible for all operational activities of SCHT and act as the key link between staff, the Board, funders, and external stakeholders.
  2. Provide strong, decisive, clear, and consistent leadership of SCHT.
  3. Manage budgets, funding reports, and staff.
  4. Ensure effective delivery of all SCHT projects.

To meet this role, we seek an individual with:

  • A degree or postgraduate qualification in Architecture, Building Conservation, Planning, Building Surveying, or a related field.
  • Experience in organizational leadership, staff management, and leading a team.
  • Technical expertise in building conservation, with knowledge of traditional building materials and techniques.
  • Sound financial management skills and excellent numerical skills.
  • A passion for Scotland’s traditional buildings and enthusiasm for service development.

Wigtown Festival Company seeks a creative leader to guide one of Scotland’s most valued cultural organisations into its next chapter. Our new CEO will champion our mission, strengthen our impact, and build on our reputation.

Wigtown, Scotland’s National Book Town, hosts the annual Wigtown Book Festival, one of the UK’s leading literary festivals, featuring over 200 sessions across arts, music, theatre, food, and literature.

The festival attracts visitors from afar and celebrates the rich culture of south-west Scotland. Established as a charity in 2007, Wigtown Festival Company has grown significantly, developing new audiences, supporting writers, encouraging reading among children, and offering creative opportunities for youth.

This is an exciting time. With Multi-Year Funding from Creative Scotland and a new permanent home, the CEO will influence the creative direction and contribute to Scotland’s cultural regeneration.

If you are passionate about books and their transformative power, and interested in culture-led regeneration, we want to hear from you.

The Role

As CEO, you will provide strong leadership, ensuring Wigtown Festival Company remains sustainable and innovative. Reporting to the Board, you will set strategic direction, lead staff, and oversee operations, finances, and growth.

You will represent the organisation publicly, advocate for our activities, and foster relationships with funders and stakeholders.

Who we’re looking for

We seek a creative, strategic leader with:

  • Strong connections in arts and literary networks, understanding challenges in the cultural economy, charities, and rural communities.
  • Excellent communication and partnership-building skills.
  • Experience in leadership, management, business planning, and organizational development, preferably within arts and literature.
  • Experience in community development and organizational growth.
  • A strategic and financial mindset, capable of leading a festival with a focus on fundraising and sustainability.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Note: The office is based in Glasgow, with activities across Scotland.
