Job description

Ardvreck is one of Scotland’s, and the UK’s, oldest independent prep schools having been established in 1883. With a range of day and boarding pupils from the ages of 3-13, the School sits in a rural campus on the edge of the Highlands alongside the town of Crieff. The School provides a stimulating and inspiring education to prepare its children for Common Entrance and Scholarship entry to a range of senior schools across the UK. In addition, it is a major local employer in the Crieff area.

The School is a private company, limited by guarantee, that is also a registered charity. There is a Board of Directors, known as the Governors, who determine the general policy of the School.

The Board of Governors is looking for talented and well-motivated individuals with the benefit of suitable experience across a wide range of fields.

The role of a Governor is primarily to help shape current and future strategy, and to advise and support the school’s Senior Leadership Team.

There is no requirement for experience in educational institutions, and the Board is looking for individuals with expertise in, but not limited to, the following fields:

• Charitable Operations

• PR, Marketing, Sales & Advertising

• Human Resources & Employee Relations

• Legal, Finance, Investment & Accountancy

• Club, Team & Individual Sport Coaching & Management

• Property & Facilities Management

• Culture, Music & Performing Arts

• Any other experience which you feel will be beneficial to the School!

Being on the Board of Governors is a highly rewarding role and allows the members to be a positive influence in all facets of school life.

Ardvreck as an institution has a multi-million-pound turnover, operates from a sizeable campus and is a major employer in the Crieff area.

As well as transferable expertise, the other main requirements of the role are enthusiasm and plenty of time to dedicate beyond the regular Board and committee meetings scheduled throughout the year.

Above all, the role of Governor will suit those who are able to work as part of a broader team and have the desire and ability to share expertise gained in other fields for the long-term benefit of Ardvreck, its pupils, staff and wider community.
