APPOINTMENT OF TWO MEMBERS TO THE BOARD OF THE CROFTING COMMISSION

The board usually comprises 6 elected and 3 appointed members. Currently, there is one appointed vacancy, with another to arise later this year. The Minister for Agriculture and Connectivity aims to appoint two new members, seeking diverse views and backgrounds.

ABOUT THE CROFTING COMMISSION

The Crofting Commission (the Commission) is a Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB), operating independently of the Scottish Government but under Scottish ministers’ ultimate responsibility. Established by the Crofting Reform (Scotland) Act 2010, it took over from the Crofters Commission on 1 April 2012. Its main functions are:

  • regulating crofting;
  • re-organising crofting;
  • promoting crofting interests; and
  • reviewing crofting matters.

The Commission’s vision is that crofts and communities enhance the social, cultural, economic, and environmental fabric of crofting areas. Its purpose is to regulate crofting fairly to protect it for future generations.

The Board typically has six elected members and three appointed members, all known as ‘commissioners’. We are seeking two new appointed members.
