Job summary

Arup is seeking a Structural Engineer to join its protective design team in the UK. The role focuses on blast engineering, protective design, and hostle vehicle mitigation across project lifecycles, from advisory to detailed design.

Candidates should hold a Masters in civil/structural engineering, be eligible for UK Security Clearance, and be experienced with structural analysis tools and Rhino/Grasshopper. London or Manchester offices are available.

Qualifications

• Masters degree in civil/structural engineering required.
• UK Security Clearance or eligible to obtain it.
• Experience in design of structures in steel, reinforced concrete, timber and/or masonry to BS/Eurocodes.
• Experience using structural analysis software; knowledge of Rhino/Grasshopper.

Responsibilities

• Utilise knowledge of mainstream structural engineering design and model structures against transient dynamic loading.
• Provide technical input across resilience, security and risk projects.
• Support threat and vulnerability risk assessments for malicious threats (terrorism, crime, civil disruption).
• Develop risk-based security strategies and integrate protective design from concept to detailed design to construction.
• Carry out blast modelling using CFD and finite element methods.
• Undertake structural and façade blast engineering design for diverse projects.
• Design Hostile Vehicle Mitigation measures as part of protective design strategies.
• Collaborate with architecture, façade, civil, transport and computational mechanics teams across locations.
