Job summary

Helical is building in-silico labs for biology and seeks a Software Developer with a strong biology/biotech data science background to join core product development. You’ll bridge biology data science and software engineering to productionize bio foundation models and optimize data workflows.

The role requires passion for biology, coding at scale, and collaboration with ML scientists, backend engineers, and biologists. You’ll shape systems that empower pharma-grade experiments.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Biology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or related field.
• 2+ years of professional software development; production code experience.
• Strong Python skills with clean, scalable code and debugging across large codebases.
• Hands-on single-cell analysis with AnnData/scanpy/scib/scipy and related tools.
• Biological reasoning to assess model outputs and experimental design implications.
• Data fluency with large biological datasets and standard file formats.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable pipelines for biological data processing.
• Integrate Bio Foundation Models for production, collaborating with ML researchers.
• Develop tools and services for data visualization, annotation, and QC of datasets.
• Collaborate with AI infrastructure and software engineers to improve reliability.
• Contribute to backend services and APIs supporting biological workflows.
