Job summary

EMBL-EBI is developing data portals for flagship sustainability and biodiversity projects, delivering data curation, validation and visualization. You will work with large scientific communities to implement metadata standards, APIs, and project-specific portals.

You will contribute to containerised workflows, cloud integration, and NLP-driven data access via MCP servers. Strong Python expertise and collaboration skills are essential.

Qualifications

• A BSc or MSc in computer science or related fields.
• Expertise in Python and modern libraries.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with ETL, data warehousing.
• Unix/Linux proficiency.
• Version control with Git.
• Experience with web frameworks and APIs.
• Familiarity with cloud and containerisation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and support data portals delivering data curation, validation, and visualization across biodiversity projects.
• Collaborate with large science communities to define metadata standards and APIs.
• Build project-specific portals and extend existing portals to meet consortium needs.
• Expose data via MCP servers and agent-based interfaces for natural-language querying.
• Contribute to containerised workflows and cloud platform integration.
