Job summary

EMBL-EBI’s DECIPHER team seeks a Bioinformatics Developer to maintain and extend a global data-sharing platform for rare disease discovery. You will work with developers, a support specialist and the project lead to make research data accessible for clinical use.

Responsibilities include data assessment, integration, and reformatting, plus building tools and interfaces for genomic interpretation. This role offers hybrid work and a chance to impact patient care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biological, clinical or computational sciences.
• Higher degree or equivalent experience in bioinformatics, software engineering or computational sciences.
• Experience with bioinformatics standards, tools and resources, especially variant annotation.
• Experience creating methods to manage and process genomics data.
• Experience designing and using large-scale relational databases (PostgreSQL).
• Proficiency in R and Python.
• Experience with UNIX/Linux environments.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver quality software on deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Investigating, assessing and integrating molecular biology and phenotypic data from public resources.
• Deploying bioinformatics tools in the DECIPHER environment and analysing genomic data.
• Designing and implementing data structures and user interfaces for human genome information and genetic disorders.
• Support DECIPHER users by responding to bug reports and feature requests.
• Translate stakeholder requirements into feature specifications for the DECIPHER platform.
• Perform ad hoc analyses to investigate data issues and aid decision making.
• Coordinate with EMBL-EBI groups and external collaborators to align resources with DECIPHER.
