CLC is one of the UK’s leading property maintenance and refurbishment groups with a turnover of c.£250m, around 1,000 employees and a national presence serving sectors such as social housing, defence, hotel and leisure, healthcare, education, and more.

CLC has grown significantly over the last few years and has ambitious growth plans to double in size in the next 4 years.

To support our continued growth we are looking for a Bid Team Lead to join our team.

The Bid Team Lead Plus 1M is responsible for defining and executing high-level bid strategies to secure contracts over £1M, directly influencing business growth and competitive positioning. This role oversees bid governance, ensures alignment with business objectives, and fosters a high-performance, strategically driven bid team. The postholder will engage at a senior level with key stakeholders, including board-level executives, to shape and refine the organisation’s bid pipeline, ensuring sustainable business success.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Excellence (What You Deliver)

  • Team Leadership: Oversee, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, ensuring excellence in bid execution.
  • Quality Control: Enforce rigorous bid governance processes, ensuring submissions meet and exceed quality expectations.
  • Workload Management: Manage and prioritise workloads across multiple, high-value tenders, maintaining efficiency and performance.
  • Bid Management: Hands on bid management for business-critical opportunities. Lead the development of innovative, compelling bid strategies that enhance win rates and long-term profitability.
  • Continuous Improvement: Implement data-driven insights and best practices to enhance bid processes and effectiveness.
  • Governance:
  • Develop a structured approach to bid governance, ensuring alignment with company objectives and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the development of a strategic bid function that positions the business for sustained growth in contracts over £1M.
  • Engage with senior leadership to align bid strategy with broader business development plans.
  • Champion a culture of excellence, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing across the bid function.

Financial Accountability (What You Own)

  • Bid Pipeline Oversight: Working with Business Development and Operational leads to track and plan for business-critical bids. Ensure that all opportunities are properly qualified through a BNB process.
  • Revenue Generation: Monitor and report on bid conversion rates, optimising strategies to enhance financial performance.
  • Resource Allocation: Oversee budget and resource planning for the bid team, ensuring cost efficiency without compromising quality.

Customer Focus (Who You Impact)

  • Client Relationships: Foster strategic partnerships with external stakeholders to enhance the company’s market positioning.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with operational teams to develop bids that reflect deliverable, high-value service propositions.
  • Feedback Integration: Drive continuous learning from bid successes and failures, embedding insights into future submissions.

Team/ People Experience (Who You Lead Or Collaborate With)

  • Talent Development: Lead succession planning, coaching, and development for bid professionals.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside business development, commercial, and operational leaders to shape bid strategies.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Champion best practices and innovation across the bid function, driving process enhancements and efficiencies.

Innovation And Continuous Improvement (How You Excel)

  • Best Practice Implementation: Introduce new tools, templates, and methodologies to enhance bid processes.
  • Bid Data Utilisation: Leverage data and insights to refine bid strategies and enhance win probability.
  • Thought Leadership: Stay informed on industry trends, competitors, and innovations to drive competitive advantage in bidding.
  • Technology & Data Utilisation: Leverage digital tools and AI to enhance bid writing, tracking, and analytics.
  • Thought Leadership: Represent the organisation at industry events, contributing to panel discussions and white papers.
  • Competitive Analysis: Benchmark bid performance against market leaders to identify improvement areas and emerging trends.

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: 40 hours each week, Monday to Friday, 8am - 5 pm
