Job summary

McLaughlin and Harvey is seeking a Bid Manager to lead bidding for high-value projects across the UK. Reporting to the Bid Director, you will direct the bid team, develop strategies, and coordinate tender activities to secure favorable outcomes.

You will manage risk, liaise with clients and internal teams, and travel as needed across the UK to ensure timely and competitive submissions.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent construction or design qualification.
• Background in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or Project Management.

Responsibilities

• Lead the bidding team and manage the Pre-Construction programme.
• Agree the Bid Win Strategy with senior directors.
• Develop and monitor a Bid Programme.
• Chair tender progress meetings and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Identify risks and opportunities and address them with the team.
• Ensure contract documents are reviewed and aligned with tender positions.
• Collaborate with Commercial and Estimating teams.
• Maintain client relationships and support business development.
• Travel across the UK as required.

What you will be doing

Reporting to the Bid Director, the role of Bid Manager is strategic whilst providing direction to the bidding team. Working on a variety of tenders at one time the Bid Manager will manage the team encouraging the best bid response in all areas. You will lead from the front and by example and take responsibility for client and client team engagement.

As Bid Manager you will also be responsible for the following key tasks:

• Manage a programme of projects in the Pre-Construction phase
• Agree the Bid Win Strategy with the Pre-Construction Director and Bid Director
• Develop a Bid Programme
• Organise, chair, and attend tender progress meetings, both internal and external
• Develop a thorough understanding of potential risks and opportunities and ensure the team address them respectively
• Ensure contract documents are thoroughly reviewed and collaborate with Commercial and Estimating teams to understand and agree tender position
• Ensure AFL, URD, FRP or other Tenant/ Employer documents are adequately reflected / captured in the design
• Research and gain a wider understanding of a scheme
• Maintain excellent working relationships with the Client
• Key Account Management and support with Business Development activities as required
• Assist with Business Development activities as required
• Travel as appropriate throughout the UK

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

• Preferably degree or equivalent construction or design qualification
• A background in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or Project Management is preferred

Experience

• Previous experience in a similar role
• Prior knowledge of the Defence sector
• Possessing existing Security Clearence that could be transferable would be preferred
• Working with different forms of building contract including JCT, NEC and bespoke
• Understanding of two-stage, single stage and negotiated tendering
• Confident communicating with colleagues and senior members of management
• The ability to work to tight deadlines
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Flexibility in approach
• Strong team ethic
