Job summary

Hastings Direct in the UK is seeking a skilled Data Analyst to deliver accurate analysis, build and refine Power BI dashboards, and translate business questions into actionable insights across underwriting performance and customer outcomes.

You will write SQL, reconcile data sources and present findings with clear storytelling, collaborating with data engineers, BI specialists and business stakeholders to drive profitable growth.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering analysis, management information, reporting or business intelligence outputs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the curiosity to challenge assumptions and investigate why results have changed.
• Experience writing SQL and working with structured data.
• Experience using a BI or data visualization tool, preferably Power BI.
• The ability to plan and structure analysis, validate outputs and deliver reliable work independently, while seeking input when risks, assumptions or priorities need clarification.
• An understanding of business KPIs and how analytical measures link to commercial or customer outcomes.
• Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain technical or complex findings to non-technical audiences.
• Good judgement about when to work independently, when to collaborate and when to elevate risks or uncertainties.
• An interest in using AI responsibly to improve analytical delivery; practical experience is beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Deliver accurate, timely and insightful analysis, reports and dashboards for underwriting decisions.
• Monitor KPIs and profit drivers, identifying trends, risks and opportunities.
• Translate findings into clear, actionable insight beyond the numbers.
• Develop and improve Power BI dashboards and recurring reporting.
• Write structured SQL with clear, documented logic and validation.
• Reconcile data sources and investigate discrepancies to ensure a trusted view of performance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business questions into analytical solutions.
• Present complex information with effective data visualization and storytelling.
• Apply AI and automation responsibly to improve analysis quality and speed.
