Job summary

ABB is seeking a Power Electronics BESS Field Technician to operate primarily across client sites in the United Kingdom and Ireland. You will diagnose, troubleshoot, and maintain BESS, PV, and EV charging systems, with on-site leadership and safety responsibilities.

The role requires 2+ years in BESS/field service, LV/MV electrical knowledge, and strong problem-solving skills. Travel across UK and Ireland with remote work model and a focus on safe, compliant operations.

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering Degree with 2+ years’ BESS technician experience.
• Hands-on experience with microgrids, BESS, solar PV, and EV charging systems.
• Strong knowledge of LV/MV electrical systems and power electronics.
• Experience with commissioning, troubleshooting, and field service in energy environments.
• NFPA 70E certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead installation, commissioning, and lifecycle maintenance of integrated microgrid systems across LV/MV networks.
• Act as on-site SME for power electronics (inverters, converters, transformers, protection/control systems).
• Drive system integration across PV, BESS, EV charging, and grid interfaces.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and safety training to engineers and field technicians.
• Stay current with grid codes, standards, and emerging technologies.
• Commission and validate MV/LV infrastructure, including switchgear, relays, and grid interconnections.
• Perform SAT and system tuning; ensure compliance with grid standards (G99).
• Conduct diagnostics, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis across electrical and control systems.
• Configure and optimize BMS, EMS, and SCADA systems.
• Execute preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance.
• Ensure safety standards, LOTO, permits, regulatory requirements.
