Job summary

ABB UK is seeking a Power Electronics BESS Field Technician - Energy & Carbon to conduct assessments, inspections, and maintenance on client energized assets across the UK and Ireland. You will diagnose, troubleshoot, and service PV, BESS, and EV charging systems, ensuring safe, compliant operations.

The role emphasizes hands-on field work, collaboration with client teams, and staying current with grid codes and renewables tech. Hybrid work options may apply where appropriate.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level electrical engineering or equivalent with practical field experience.
• 2+ years’ BESS technician experience or similar.
• Hands-on with microgrids, solar PV, and EV charging systems.
• Experience in commissioning, troubleshooting, and field service in energy environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead installation, commissioning, and lifecycle maintenance of integrated microgrid systems across LV/MV networks.
• Act as on-site SME for power electronics (inverters, converters, transformers, protection/control).
• Drive system integration across PV, BESS, EV charging, and grid interfaces for interoperability.
• Provide technical leadership and safety training to engineers and field technicians.
• Perform diagnostics, fault finding, and root cause analysis across electrical/control systems.
