Long Term Futures are seeking a dedicated Behavioural Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH provision supporting pupils aged 4-16 in Shepshed. The role runs 8:40am–3:40pm, Monday to Friday, with start ASAP.

It offers both long-term opportunities and day-to-day cover, with a temp-to-perm path. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, build trusting relationships, support emotional regulation and behaviour management, and work with teachers and SENCOs.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH/SEND or behavioural needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Calm, patient and resilient, with the ability to respond positively to challenging situations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils aged 4-16 with SEMH, SEND and behavioural needs.
  • Build consistent, trusting relationships with children and young people who may have barriers to education.
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour using de-escalation and behaviour-management strategies.
  • Create a calm, structured and nurturing environment where pupils feel safe and supported.
  • Adapt communication and support to pupils' age and development stage.
  • Work with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff and external professionals to provide consistent support.
  • Encourage pupils to develop resilience, confidence, independence and social and emotional skills.

Long Term Futures are seeking a dedicated Behavioural Teaching Assistant to join a specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) all-through provision, supporting pupils aged 4-16. The school supports learners with a range of special educational needs, SEMH and behavioural needs, providing a structured, nurturing and personalised approach to education. We are looking for candidates interested in both long-term opportunities and day-to-day cover, making this a great option for those seeking full-time work or flexible, part-time days.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils aged 4-16 with SEMH, SEND and behavioural needs, adapting your approach to suit individual pupils.
  • Build consistent, trusting relationships with children and young people who may have experienced barriers to education.
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour using appropriate de-escalation and behaviour-management strategies.
  • Create a calm, structured and nurturing environment where pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
  • Adapt your communication and support depending on pupils' age, individual needs and stage of development.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff and external professionals to provide consistent support.
  • Encourage pupils to develop resilience, confidence, independence and positive social and emotional skills.
Person Specification:
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, behavioural needs or other additional needs.
  • Comfortable supporting pupils across a range of ages and abilities, from primary through to secondary.
  • Calm, patient and resilient, with the ability to respond positively and consistently to challenging situations.
  • Energetic and able to support active pupils throughout the school day.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish trust and clear boundaries.
  • Confident working as part of a wider team to support pupils' academic, social and emotional development.
  • A genuine commitment to helping children and young people overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes.
