Job summary

Veritas Education in Romford/Waltham Forest is recruiting Behaviour Support Assistants to work in specialist SEN schools. You will support pupils aged 2–19 with ASD, SEMH, ADHD, and other needs, both in class and in breakouts, using targeted strategies and positive behaviour support.

The role offers full-time, term-time arrangements with ongoing training and opportunities across multiple sites. You will collaborate with teachers, therapists and families to foster safe, purposeful learning

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, ASD, ADHD or challenging behaviour.
• Experience within a school, alternative provision, youth work, care, support work or residential setting.
• Strong behaviour management skills.
• A calm, patient and resilient approach.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• The ability to build positive relationships and act as a role model.
• A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children and young people.
• Valid Child and Adult DBS essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with behavioural and additional learning needs.
• Support pupils with emotional regulation, social skills and positive behaviour strategies.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement in learning.
• Implement behaviour support plans and follow EHCP targets.
• De-escalate challenging situations using a calm and proactive approach.
• Support pupils both inside and outside the classroom.
• Encourage independence, confidence and resilience.
• Work closely with teachers, therapists, parents and other professionals.
• Monitor pupil progress and behaviour.
• Help create a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.
