Job summary

Engage Partners Limited in Bromley is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Mentor to support students with SEMH and other needs in a specialist secondary education setting. You will provide one-to-one mentoring, promote positive behaviour, and work with staff to implement support plans to help learners overcome barriers to learning.

The role requires resilience, calm and excellent communication, with DBS enhanced checks and safeguarding commitments.

Qualifications

  • Have experience working with young people who present challenging behaviour.
  • Calm, patient and able to build positive professional relationships.
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Confident supporting students with SEMH, ADHD, autism or other needs.
  • Proactive, resilient and committed to safeguarding young people, including Enhanced DBS.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one mentoring and pastoral support for students with SEMH needs.
  • Support pupils during lessons to improve engagement, attendance and behaviour.
  • Help students develop emotional regulation and positive coping strategies.
  • Work with teaching staff to implement behaviour support plans.
  • Supervise intervention sessions and support reflection or restorative work.
  • Manage challenging behaviour using positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain behaviour records.
  • Build strong relationships with families and external professionals.

Salary: £100–£120 per day (depending on experience)

A specialist secondary education setting in Bromley is seeking an enthusiastic Behaviour Support Mentor to join its dedicated team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting students with social, emotional and behavioural needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve success both in and out of the classroom.

This role is ideal for candidates with experience in education, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, social care or alternative provision.

About the Role

As a Behaviour Support Mentor, you will work closely with students who require additional behavioural and emotional support, providing consistent guidance and encouragement throughout the school day.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one mentoring and pastoral support for students with SEMH needs.
  • Supporting pupils during lessons to improve engagement, attendance and behaviour.
  • Helping students develop emotional regulation, resilience and positive coping strategies.
  • Working alongside teaching staff to implement behaviour support plans.
  • Supervising intervention sessions and supporting students during reflection or restorative work.
  • Managing challenging behaviour using positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques.
  • Monitoring student progress and maintaining accurate behaviour records.
  • Building strong relationships with families, external professionals and the wider pastoral team.
About You

The successful candidate will:

  • Have previous experience working with young people who present challenging behavior.
  • Be calm, patient and able to build positive, professional relationships.
  • Have excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Be confident supporting students with SEMH, ADHD, autism or other additional needs.
  • Be proactive, resilient and committed to safeguarding young people.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one.

Team Teach training or experience within behaviour support, youth mentoring or alternative provision would be advantageous but is not essential.
