Job summary

Simply Education Ltd is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor for a specialist SEMH setting in Bromley Common. You will work with secondary pupils who present with challenging behaviour, supporting emotional regulation and pastoral needs on a full-time basis.

The role involves 1:1 and small-group interventions, building positive relationships, and collaboration with school staff to promote engagement and progress. Start ASAP or September 2026, with permanent and temporary opportunities available.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting secondary pupils with SEMH and behaviour needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group behaviour and pastoral support.
  • Build positive relationships and establish trustworthy rapport with pupils.
  • Support SEMH needs and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Utilise de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviour.
  • Help pupils develop confidence, resilience and self-esteem.
  • Contribute to pupils at risk of exclusion with reintegration support.
  • Support education engagement and attendance initiatives.
  • Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff and external professionals.

Behaviour Mentor - Bromley Common | Secondary SEMH

Location: Bromley Common, South East London

Job Type: Full-time | Permanent or Temporary opportunities

Start Date: ASAP / September 2026

Age Group: Secondary

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

The Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with secondary-aged pupils who may present with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs, emotional regulation difficulties and barriers to learning.

You will build positive relationships with pupils, provide consistent boundaries and act as a trusted adult and positive role model.

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group behaviour and pastoral support
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH and emotional regulation
  • Managing challenging behaviour using appropriate de-escalation strategies
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, resilience and self-esteem
  • Supporting young people who have experienced or are at risk of exclusion
  • Encouraging pupils to re-engage with education and learning
  • Establishing clear, consistent and positive boundaries
  • Supporting individual behaviour plans and pupil targets
  • Promoting positive attitudes towards education
  • Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff and external professionals
  • Maintaining a calm, consistent and supportive approach
About the School

The school is a specialist SEMH setting in Bromley Common providing education for secondary-aged pupils who require additional behavioural, emotional and pastoral support.

The school offers a structured environment with clear expectations and a strong focus on relationships, behaviour, emotional wellbeing and educational progress.

Many pupils may have experienced difficulties within mainstream education, including exclusion or persistent barriers to learning. The school aims to provide a fresh start and help pupils develop the skills and confidence needed to make positive progress.

However, experience within a school is not essential. We are also interested in candidates from youth work, care, sports, residential or other relevant backgrounds who have the resilience, confidence and interpersonal skills to support young people with challenging behaviour.
