Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one mentoring for students with behavioural and emotional needs.

  • Help students develop emotional resilience, self-regulation and decision-making.
  • Support restorative conversations after behavioural incidents.
  • Collaborate with teachers, pastoral leaders and safeguarding staff on individual support plans.
  • Monitor student progress, behaviour and attendance and maintain records.

Job description

Location: Bromley, South East London
Contract: Full-Time | Term-Time Only
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: £100–£120 per day (depending on experience)

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established specialist education setting in Bromley that is looking to appoint a committed Behaviour Intervention Mentor. This is a fantastic opportunity to support students who have experienced barriers to mainstream education and help them re-engage with learning in a structured, supportive environment.

The Role

As a Behaviour Intervention Mentor, you will be a key member of the pastoral team, supporting students both academically and emotionally throughout the school day.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing consistent one-to-one mentoring for students with behavioural and emotional needs.
  • Supporting pupils during lessons to improve focus, engagement and classroom behaviour.
  • Working with students who require additional intervention to remain engaged in education.
  • Helping students develop emotional resilience, self-regulation and positive decision-making skills.
  • Supporting restorative conversations following behavioural incidents.
  • Working alongside teachers, pastoral leaders and safeguarding staff to implement individual support plans.
  • Monitoring student progress, behaviour and attendance, maintaining accurate records where required.
  • Acting as a positive role model and promoting high expectations across the school.
About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people in education, youth work, mentoring, social care or alternative provision.
  • Builds strong professional relationships and can quickly gain students’ trust and respect.
  • Remains calm, patient and solution-focused in challenging situations.
  • Has excellent behaviour management and communication skills.
  • Is passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable young people.
  • Understands safeguarding responsibilities and the importance of maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.

Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, ADHD, Autism, trauma or challenging behaviour would be highly beneficial.
