Are you someone who can build strong relationships with young people, provide a positive role model and use their interests to help them engage, develop confidence and reach their potential?
Aspire People is recruiting Learning Support Assistants to work on a long-term basis within a specialist SEND school in Stockport, supporting secondary and college-aged pupils with a range of additional needs.
We're particularly interested in people who have developed strong relationship-building and mentoring skills through backgrounds such as sports coaching, youth work, children's residential care, mentoring, SEND support or other roles working with young people.
You don't necessarily need to have followed a traditional route into education. For this school, your ability to connect with young people, remain calm and consistent and become a trusted, positive influence is incredibly important.
You'll work alongside an experienced SEND team, supporting young people to access their education and develop the wider skills they need for adulthood.
Depending on the pupils you're supporting, your role could involve:
Could your experience transfer into SEND education?
Experience within a SEND school is beneficial, but the right attitude, resilience and ability to build relationships are equally important.
You may already have experience supporting young people who can become dysregulated, disengaged or display behaviours that challenge. You'll understand the importance of remaining calm, not taking behaviour personally and providing the consistent boundaries, encouragement and positive relationships young people need to succeed.
This isn't a role where you'll simply sit alongside a pupil in lessons.
You’ll become part of a wider team supporting young people to engage with education, develop independence, build confidence and prepare for their next steps beyond school.
We'll take the time to understand your experience, strengths and what you're looking for from your next role. You'll work with a dedicated consultant who can help you identify where your skills will have the greatest impact and put a plan in place to help you secure the right opportunity.
If you're the type of person young people naturally respond to - someone who can build rapport, provide consistency and be a positive influence - your experience could transfer incredibly well into specialist education.
