Job description

Calm when it kicks off? We want to hear from you.

We're recruiting a Behaviour Mentor for a specialist secondary school in Slough supporting young people aged 11 to 19 with social, emotional and mental health needs. Most pupils have an EHCP, and many have been excluded from mainstream. With small classes and plenty of adults around, it's a school where relationships come first.

What you'll be doing
  • Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups to manage their behaviour and emotions
  • Spotting early signs of escalation and stepping in before it builds
  • De escalating incidents calmly and following each pupil's behaviour plan
  • Running restorative conversations so pupils can repair and move on
  • Being a consistent, positive role model across the day, including breaks and lunch
What we're looking for
  • Experience in a PRU, AP, SEMH school, inclusion unit or pastoral role
  • OR strong experience with challenging teenagers in youth, care or community work
  • Team Teach, PRICE or similar training is a big plus (we can arrange it)
  • Resilience, patience and a sense of humour
  • Someone who doesn't take things personally and always gives a fresh start
What you'll get
  • Meaningful work with young people who need you
  • Ongoing training and support
  • A welcoming, experienced team
  • A route to a permanent role

You’ll need an enhanced DBS (or be willing to get one) and two references.
