Job summary

Uniform Education is recruiting a Behaviour Mentor for Kingston to support pupils with behavioural and emotional needs in a UK school setting. The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, building positive relationships, and implementing individual behaviour plans.

Applicants should have experience in a primary or secondary school, strong behaviour-management skills, and a clear commitment to pupil wellbeing and learning. A DBS Update Service check is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with behavioural, emotional, or SEN needs in a UK school setting.
  • Experience in a primary or secondary school setting is desirable or beneficial.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply through Uniform Education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils experiencing behavioural or emotional difficulties.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Support pupils to manage their behaviour, emotions, and responses appropriately.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and individual plans.
  • Help pupils develop confidence, resilience, self-regulation, and independence.
  • Support pupils who may struggle with engagement, attendance, or learning.
  • De‑escalate challenging situations calmly and professionally.
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENCo, pastoral staff, and senior leadership.

Behaviour Mentor – Kingston

Location: Kingston, South West London

Start Date: As Soon As Possible

Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only

A welcoming and inclusive school in Kingston is seeking an experienced Behaviour Mentor to join their team. The role is ideal for someone with experience supporting children or young people with behavioural, emotional, and additional needs, either within a primary or secondary school setting.

The Role
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils experiencing behavioural or emotional difficulties
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Support pupils to manage their behaviour, emotions, and responses appropriately
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and individual plans
  • Help pupils develop confidence, resilience, self-regulation, and independence
  • Support pupils who may struggle with engagement, attendance, or learning
  • De‑escalate challenging situations calmly and professionally
  • Encourage positive behaviour and reinforce the school's expectations
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENCo, pastoral staff, and senior leadership
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to relevant staff
  • Support pupils both inside and outside the classroom where required
  • Help create a calm, safe, and supportive learning environment
About You
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with behavioural, emotional, or SEN needs in a UK school setting
  • Experience working in either a primary or secondary school
  • Experience as a Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Youth Worker, Pastoral Support Worker, or similar
  • Confidence supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • A calm, patient, resilient, and consistent approach
  • Strong behaviour-management and de‑.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to maintain clear boundaries while developing positive relationships with pupils
  • A minimum Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching & Learning, Education, Youth Work, or an equivalent qualification is desirable
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply through Uniform Education
