Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a Behaviour Manager for a Northamptonshire secondary school. The role focuses on leading day-to-day behaviour management, building respectful relationships, and supporting students through targeted interventions within a collaborative pastoral team.

The successful candidate will work with senior leaders, staff, students and families to promote positive behaviour, wellbeing, and high learning expectations across the school.

Qualifications

  • Experience in behaviour, pastoral, mentoring or safeguarding roles.
  • Understanding of behaviour management strategies in secondary schools.
  • Ability to stay calm and professional in challenging situations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day management and improvement of student behaviour across the school.
  • Build positive relationships with students while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.
  • Support students through targeted behaviour interventions, mentoring and restorative conversations.
  • Identify behaviour trends and work to reduce barriers to learning.
  • Collaborate with the pastoral team, SEN department and external agencies as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, interventions and student progress.

Behaviour Manager - Secondary School

Location: Northampton, Northamptonshire

Start Date: September 2026

Contract Type: Full-Time | Permanent

Salary: Competitive salary, dependent on experience

Do you have experience supporting students with behavioural challenges and the ability to build strong relationships while maintaining high expectations?

We are working in partnership with a successful and inclusive secondary school in Northampton that is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Manager to join their pastoral team on a permanent, full-time basis from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced behaviour professional who wants to play a key role in improving student outcomes, strengthening behaviour systems, and supporting a positive learning environment across the school.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior leaders, pastoral staff, teachers, students, and families to promote excellent behaviour, provide targeted support, and ensure students receive the guidance they need to thrive both academically and personally.

The Role
  • Lead on the day-to-day management and improvement of student behaviour across the school
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with students while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations
  • Support students through targeted behaviour interventions, mentoring, and restorative conversations
  • Identify behaviour trends and work proactively to reduce barriers to learning
  • Provide support to students who require additional pastoral or behavioural guidance
  • Work alongside teaching staff to implement consistent behaviour strategies across classrooms
  • Manage incidents effectively, using calm, fair, and solution-focused approaches
  • Maintain accurate records of behaviour incidents, interventions, and student progress
  • Collaborate with the pastoral team, SEN department, and external agencies where appropriate
  • Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and ambitious school environment
We're Looking For Someone Who:
  • Has proven experience supporting young people in a behaviour, pastoral, mentoring, or safeguarding role
  • Understands effective behaviour management strategies within a secondary school environment
  • Can confidently manage challenging situations while remaining calm and professional
  • Has the ability to build trust and positive relationships with students
  • Is consistent, resilient, and passionate about helping young people make positive choices
  • Has excellent communication skills and can work effectively with staff, students, and parents/carers
  • Has experience within education, youth work, SEND, pastoral support, or a related setting
  • Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to apply
