Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a Behaviour Learning Support Assistant for a specialist SEMH school from September 2026. Working 8:30-3:30, term-time only, you will support pupils 1:1 and in small groups to promote emotional wellbeing and positive learning.

You will work with pupils aged 5–16 with SEMH needs, ASC, ADHD and EHCPs, building trusting relationships, applying behaviour strategies, and collaborating with teachers to implement personalised plans.

Qualifications

• Recent experience supporting children, young people or vulnerable groups.
• Experience with SEMH, Autism, ADHD or behaviour support is desirable but not essential.
• Calm, patient and resilient with ability to build positive relationships.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups to promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
• Build positive, trusting relationships to help pupils feel safe and ready to learn.
• Support development of emotional regulation and recognise emotions to make positive choices.
• Use behaviour support strategies and restorative approaches to manage challenging behaviours.
• Work with teachers and pastoral teams to implement personalised learning plans.
• Support pupils with SEMH needs, Autism, ADHD and EHCPs by adapting approaches to needs.
• Encourage independence, resilience, social skills and self-confidence inside and outside class.
• Promote a calm, inclusive learning environment where every pupil can reach potential.
• Assist with transitions, breaks and structured activities to maintain routines.

We’re currently recruiting for a Behaviour Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school on a long-term basis starting in September. This role offers the opportunity to become a permanent member of staff following a successful probationary period.

The school supports children and young people aged 5–16 with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many pupils display behaviours that challenge due to difficulties with emotional regulation, communication and past experiences. The school also supports pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), including those with diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and ADHD.

You will play an important role in helping pupils develop emotional regulation strategies, make positive choices and build the confidence and resilience needed to achieve success both in school and beyond.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups to promote positive behaviour, engagement and emotional wellbeing.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils to help them feel safe, understood and ready to learn.
• Supporting children to develop emotional regulation skills, recognise their emotions and make positive choices throughout the school day.
• Using behaviour support strategies and restorative approaches to help pupils successfully manage behaviours that challenge.
• Working closely with teachers and the wider pastoral team to implement personalised behaviour and learning plans.
• Supporting pupils with SEMH needs, Autism, ADHD and EHCPs by adapting your approach to meet individual needs.
• Encouraging independence, resilience, social skills and self-confidence both inside and outside of the classroom.
• Promoting a calm, consistent and inclusive learning environment where every pupil feels valued and able to achieve their potential.
• Assisting with transitions, breaktimes and structured activities to maintain positive routines and minimise barriers to learning.

Requirements:

• Recent experience supporting children, young people or vulnerable adults.
• Experience working with SEMH, Autism, ADHD or behaviour support is desirable but not essential.
• A calm, patient and resilient approach with the ability to build positive relationships.
• An Enhanced Child and Adult Workforce DBS, or willingness to apply for one.
• The ability to provide two recent employment references.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience and the requirements of the assignment.
