Job description

About the Role

TaiSan is developing next-generation polymer electrolyte to enable Sodium Batteries 2.0 — higher energy density, safer, and scalable. We are looking to recruit Battery Cell Prototyping Engineer to assemble and optimize multilayer pouch cells that validate our Gen 1-3 technology roadmap. In this role, you will be responsible for translating materials innovation (electrolyte, electrodes, polymer systems) into working pouch and cylindrical cells. You will work closely with electrolyte, polymer, and electrode teams to improve performance metrics and move toward semi-automated assembly workflows. Your work will directly impact energy density, cyclability, safety validation, and readiness for pilot-scale production.

Key Responsibilities
Battery Cell Assembly
  • Assemble monolayer, multilayer pouch and cylindrical cells, ensuring high precision and reproducibility.
  • Optimize stacking, lamination, sealing, and pressure control procedures.
  • Ensure consistent handling of metallic anodes and sensitive electrolyte systems.
  • Maintain structured documentation of assembly parameters and batch history.
Performance Optimization
  • Work closely with the wider technical group to address key performance challenges, including energy density, cycle life, pressure and temperature sensitivity, and degradation mechanisms.
  • Identify assembly-related bottlenecks affecting cell metrics.
  • Suggest practical improvements in process, handling, and materials integration.
Automation & Throughput
  • Develop strategies to increase throughput toward 10-20 pouch cells per week.
  • Propose semi-automation or workflow improvements to increase consistency and efficiency.
  • Support development of standardized assembly protocols to reduce variability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Cooperate closely with electrode and electrolyte teams to ensure compatibility across components.
  • Align assembly conditions with material design requirements (polymerisation, curing, interfaces).
  • Support electrochemical testing workflows and feedback loops to R&D teams.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Hands‑on experience assembling pouch and cylindrical battery cells.
  • Experience working with metallic anodes.
  • Knowledge of solid-state or polymer-based cells.
  • Strong understanding of pressure and temperature dependencies in battery cell assembly and performance.
  • Familiarity with electrochemical testing mechanisms and workflows.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent, reproducible processes.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience scaling lab cell assembly workflows.
  • Experience improving yield and reducing process variability.
  • Familiarity with degradation analysis and interfacial challenges in polymer or solid-state systems.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving deep‑tech startup environment with high ownership.
