SuperDielectrics in Cambridge is looking for a Development Engineer to play a key role in developing battery cells and modules. You will be focused on optimizing manufacturing, testing, and quality control procedures while integrating these cells into high-performance systems.
This position offers the opportunity to work within a high-growth, entrepreneurial environment and is open to candidates from related fields.
SuperDielectrics (SD) is pioneering a breakthrough battery technology designed for the high‑power markets of the future, supporting the global shift to electrification. Our water‑based batteries deliver market‑leading performance through a novel polymer separator, combined with zinc halide electroactive species and carbon‑based porous electrodes.
To accelerate commercialization, SD operates a fully integrated product development model – from advanced materials through to cells, modules and packs – underpinned by in‑house battery management systems.
As a Development Engineer you will play a key role in developing the battery cells and modules, being involved in the design, development and deployment of the cells and modules as well as supporting their testing and manufacturing.
You will work on existing battery cells and modules with a primary focus on optimizing and continuously improving their manufacturing, testing and quality‑control procedures, while also supporting the integration of cells/modules into high‑performance systems and enabling deployment into real‑world applications. Additionally, you will be involved in supporting the development and design of next‑generation cells and modules and their scaling up toward the application/deployment stage.
You will primarily work within the Module team, collaborating closely across engineering, product, application testing and commercial functions to translate innovation into deliverable products.
This is a rare opportunity to join a high‑growth, entrepreneurial business at a pivotal stage. While experience in battery technologies is advantageous, we actively welcome candidates from adjacent fields – bringing fresh perspectives to complex engineering challenges. In return, we offer a world‑class environment to develop deep expertise in next‑generation energy storage.
