A consultancy based in Scotland is offering an exciting opportunity for a Bat Licensed Ecologist to support ecology activities on various road contracts in Scotland, including the South West Network Management Contract for Transport Scotland, active travel schemes (e.g., AMIDS Renfrewshire), and the North Angus Growth Opportunity. As an Ecologist in Scotland, you will help develop and grow the team, potentially leading ecology-specific business development initiatives.

Your new role
You will be a key member of the Energy Transition & Sustainability team, supporting clients and providing ecological expertise. As a Bat Licensed Ecologist, you will assist your Senior Ecologist with projects, lead on certain initiatives, and mentor junior Ecologists.
Responsibilities include:

  1. Producing technically sound deliverables for ecological projects in a team setting
  2. Preparing and reviewing documentation to meet quality, cost, and timeline standards
  3. Liaising with clients and suppliers, attending meetings, and addressing queries
  4. Managing a small, locally based technical team and overseeing their workload
  5. Contributing to bid preparation and business development
  6. Promoting health and safety practices within the team


What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience and expertise in ecology, gained through relevant roles
  • Licences for protected species surveys, specifically a bat licence for this role
  • Experience with EPS mitigation licence applications and protected species licences (bats & dormice)
  • Experience in invasive species survey and management
  • Knowledge of ecological processes and survey methodologies
  • Ability to produce compliant, technically sound ecological solutions
  • Understanding of ecological management principles
  • Experience with health, safety, and welfare tasks related to projects
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and hazard management
  • Degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biology, Environmental Science, or equivalent
  • Full membership of CIEEM or equivalent
