Senior / Principal Ecologist

Permanent, full time or part-time
Up to £50,000 (Full Time Equivalent) dependent on experience

We are recruiting Senior and Principal Ecologists for our offices in Manchester, York, and Edinburgh. Applicants from consultancy or non-consultancy backgrounds with academic or vocational qualifications are welcome.

Role Overview

As a Senior or Principal Ecologist, you will deliver biodiversity surveys and assessments, including site surveys, data processing, and reporting. You will mentor junior staff, develop client relationships, and gain experience across project lifecycles.

You should have a passion for ecology, familiarity with UK legislation including the Environment Act 2021, and experience with UK Hab surveys and biodiversity metrics. Continuous professional development is encouraged and supported.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support design teams with ecology deliverables
  • Lead habitat and species surveys
  • Conduct desk studies, data analysis, and prepare reports (PEA, EcIA, BNG)
  • Develop scope of work and fee proposals
  • Manage health and safety documentation
  • Assist in team operations and planning
  • Engage with clients and regulators
  • Mentor junior staff
Qualifications & Experience
  • At least four years relevant UK experience
  • Driving license preferred
  • CIEEM membership preferred
