Job summary

The Grand Hotel Birmingham Limited is seeking a Bar Host to join Madeleine, an award-winning hotel bar in a Grade II* listed building on Colmore Row, Birmingham. You will welcome guests, manage reservations and help create a seamless guest journey with a warm, professional hospitality approach.

Typical shifts run 15:00-23:00 or 16:00-00:00, across weekdays, evenings, weekends and bank holidays, with potential for additional hours based on business needs.

Qualifications

• A warm, genuine personality with hospitality mindset.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends.
• Experience in hospitality is advantageous but not required.

• Create a warm and memorable first impression for every guest.

As our Bar Host you'll be the welcoming face of Madeleine, setting the tone for the warm, friendly, generous and distinctive hospitality that makes The Grand so special.

From the first enquiry to the final farewell, you'll play an essential role in creating a seamless guest journey, managing table reservations, welcoming guests and ensuring everyone feels genuinely looked after.

This is a part-time role offering a 24-hour-per-week contract, with the potential for additional hours depending on business needs. Typical shifts include 15:00-23:00 and 16:00-00:00, across weekdays, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

What the role involves

• Creating a warm and memorable first impression, welcoming every guest with genuine hospitality and a professional, friendly approach.
• Managing reservations from initial enquiry through to arrival, seating and potential rebooking, whether by telephone or in person.
• Confirming bookings, dietary requirements and special requests in advance, ensuring every detail is communicated and guests receive a personalised experience.
• Coordinating reservations, walk-ins and table availability to maximise covers while maintaining a relaxed atmosphere and exceptional guest experience.
• Working closely with the Food & Beverage team, assisting with guest requests and service where needed to ensure the smooth running of Madeleine.

• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a positive, proactive approach, with the ability to remain calm and composed during busy periods.
• A flexible attitude and willingness to work a variety of shifts, including weekdays, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
