Job summary

Birmingham Law Firm is seeking a Banking & Capital Markets Associate with 5+ years' PQE for their Birmingham office. You will manage banking and capital markets transactions, draft and negotiate documentation, and work closely with clients to achieve deadlines.

Banking & Capital Markets Associate | 5+ PQE | Birmingham

We are working with a highly regarded national law firm seeking an experienced Banking & Capital Markets Solicitor with 5+ years' PQE to join their Birmingham office. This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex and high-value banking and capital markets transactions within a supportive and collaborative team environment.

The Role

• Take responsibility for the day-to-day management of banking and capital markets transactions.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of banking documentation, including loan agreements, security documentation, private placements, listed bond issues, ISDA agreements, and PFI loan agreements.
• Work directly with clients, understanding their objectives and meeting deadlines.
• Contribute to business development and client relationship management in a client-focused manner.
• Provide support to other fee earners in the department, sharing knowledge and expertise where required.
• Maintain accurate and compliant client files in line with LEXCEL, ISO27001, and SRA standards.
• Meet or exceed monthly billing targets and support efficient team operations.

Candidate Requirements

• Qualified Solicitor with 5+ years' experience in banking law and/or capital markets transactions.
• Experience advising borrowers or lenders, with excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
• Strong academic background (2:1 or First at degree level or equivalent preferred).
• Commercially aware, able to convey clear, concise advice to clients and stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Self-motivated and able to prioritise a demanding workload while remaining calm and professional.
• Team player with flexibility to meet client deadlines.

Desirable Skills

• Experience in charity law, housing association law, or regulatory matters.
• Familiarity with Document Management Systems (DMS) and time recording systems such as Partners for Windows.
