Spire Southampton Hospital is looking for a Medical Secretary to join our team on bank shifts on an ad hoc basis. We offer world-class care, attracting patients from across the South of England and internationally. Our hospital delivers some of the best cardiac surgery results in the country, supported by a dedicated Critical Care department and multidisciplinary team.

Duties and responsibilities:
  1. Answer telephone queries and refer to Consultants as necessary. Arrange new patient appointments and register them using an in-house database such as Practice Manager and SAP.
  2. Provide new patients with specific information regarding their appointments, including potential hospital and consultant fees.
  3. Type clinic letters using digital or audio tape dictation from consultants, and arrange follow-up appointments, initially using paper diaries before transitioning to an electronic system.
  4. Assist with preparation of future clinics, chase results, and ensure clinics are complete and ready for the next consultant's day. Update and amend future clinics as necessary on behalf of the consultants.
  5. Chase patient results and ensure they are ready for review by the consultant prior to or during the next appointment.
  6. Type discharge summaries dictated by consultants as required.
  7. Produce medical reports for medical insurers to approve treatments.
  8. Maintain patient records securely in accordance with hospital policy and data protection laws.
Who we're looking for:
  1. Previous experience as a Medical Secretary or Secretary/PA.
  2. Experience in a similar role, providing high-quality customer service.
  3. Good communication and customer service skills.
  4. Ability to manage workload efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  5. Strong audio typing skills.
  6. Proficiency in IT, including MS Office applications.
