The Emergency Departments (ED) at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust are seeking experienced Emergency Nurse/Care Practitioners to join our team on a bank basis. As demand in unscheduled/emergency care increases, we aim to expand our team with motivated, expert individuals to manage minor injury and illness patients.

About the Trust

The trust has two EDs: the Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH) in Brighton, a major trauma centre with a dedicated Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC), and The Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Haywards Heath, a smaller unit with a UTC working within the main ED.

Role Overview

The ENP/ECP is an experienced nurse or paramedic qualified in minor injuries and illnesses, capable of delivering unscheduled care independently within defined guidelines. The role involves maintaining competence and developing practice according to professional standards.

Team Support

The team is supported by a Lead ENP, Divisional Lead Nurse, Matron, ED Consultants, and GPs, including an educational GP focused on team development.

Eligibility

We welcome applications from those with current UK NMC registration. Internationally qualified nurses requiring sponsorship are not currently eligible.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, diagnose, treat, and discharge both paediatric and adult patients with minor to complex conditions within scope of practice.
  • Work autonomously within guidelines in the UTC/ED setting.
  • Provide clinical leadership and promote best practices within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to meeting Key Performance Indicators.
Our Commitment

We value diversity, inclusion, and the well-being of our staff. We offer extensive Wellbeing Programmes, support networks, and development opportunities to help you grow your career and make a difference.
