Band 7 Emergency Nurse Practitioner

The Emergency Department at St Thomas' Hospital London is looking to recruit a highly motivated, Trainee Emergency Nurse Practitioner to join our cross-site Urgent Care Centre (Guys and St Thomas').
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and help shape and support the development of the service. The Emergency Department would provide bespoke in-house training as part of this position, alongside supervised practice.
The successful applicant would be expected to have the flexibility to work across all areas of the Emergency Floor and Trained ENP.
This is an autonomous post working within a set of parameters to treat patients presenting with minor injuries and minor illness conditions. The position is part of a 24-hour ENP service, and Emergency Department experience is essential.

Main duties of the job
- Acts as an autonomous practitioner in the care and management of patients with minor injuries attending the Emergency Department, St Thomas' Hospital, and the Urgent Care Centre, Guys Hospital.
- Provides specialist advice in minor injuries to patients and the multidisciplinary team.
- Acts as an expert resource and facilitator to educate and train other staff and students, thus providing specialist care for patients.
- Responsible for developing communication pathways with key stakeholders including outside agencies and commissioners.
- The post holder will be involved in the development of practice.
- Accountable for own specialist professional practice.
- The post holder will be responsible for contributing to the ongoing development of clinical practice, research, and standards of care within the service, including the development of policies, protocols, and guidelines, and contribute to service developments in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Ensures the safety and well-being of service users, always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person-centered care principles.

Job responsibilities
- Work autonomously within the band 6 ENP parameters of practice while collaborating as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering personalized patient care.
- Assess and recognize emergencies in the specialty, interpret information, and take appropriate action, leading others to do the same.
- Advocate for patients within the department to ensure a patient-oriented approach to care and meet NHS standards and guidelines.
- Ensure high-quality clinical care and a positive patient experience, respecting their customs, beliefs, and doctrines.
- Recognize and avoid situations detrimental to patients' health and well-being.
- Coordinate the provision of specialist services within hospital and community settings, liaising effectively with colleagues.
- Support and advise clinical teams with specialist knowledge and advice.
- Participate in promoting patient-centered care and establish supportive relationships with patients and families.
- Support patients and carers in making informed decisions about treatment and management.
- Promote high standards of clinical care and assist in developing the service through evidence-based practice and standards.
- Provide professional and clinical leadership, acting as a resource for education and expertise.
- Demonstrate expert practice in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, including history taking, examinations, and diagnostics.
- Administer prescribed medications correctly, including blood transfusions.
- Participate in promoting the service through dissemination of knowledge and research findings.
- Maintain and develop expert knowledge through networking and continuous professional development.
- Take charge of the area in the absence of the designated responsible person.
- Ensure patients and families receive appropriate verbal and written care planning advice.
- Maintain accurate patient records, ensuring confidentiality.
- Organize work and manage caseloads effectively, supporting staff as needed.
- Implement cost-effective initiatives to improve service delivery.
- Provide cover for other Clinical Nurse Specialists as appropriate.
- Develop policies, protocols, and clinical guidelines to support the service.
- Provide education to team members to facilitate learning and development.
- Adhere to HR policies regarding staffing, sickness, capability, and disciplinary issues, coordinating with HR and management.
- Participate in recruitment, selection, and retention processes.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels and skill mix, monitoring use of bank and agency staff.
- Promote effective communication within the department and encourage evidence-based practice.
- Assist in strategic planning for the service in collaboration with leadership.
- Maintain equipment and manage supplies within financial resources.
- Ensure continuous ENP cover, anticipating and acting on staffing shortages.
