Qualifications

• HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
• BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science or equivalent
• Proven experience in microbiology, particularly general bacteriology
• Proficiency in EUCAST antibiotic susceptibility testing
• Skilled in plate reading and microscopy techniques
• Familiarity with laboratory information systems and quality standards
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

• The postholder will be responsible for performing a range of microbiological investigations, including plate reading, microscopy, and interpretation of results in line with EUCAST antibiotic guidelines.
• Duties include processing clinical specimens, maintaining quality control procedures, and ensuring compliance with laboratory standards.
• Collaboration with clinical teams is essential to support effective patient management and infection control.
• The role also involves contributing to the continuous improvement of laboratory services and training junior staff when required.
