University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Material Movement Operative to join the Logistics and Supply Chain team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. The role supports timely delivery of goods and essential supplies across hospital departments, working 37.5 hours per week with 7:00–15:00 or 13:00–21:00 shifts.

Responsibilities

• Collect, handle, and manage waste materials from theatres, wards, and clinical areas, ensuring safe and compliant disposal procedures.
• Transport and manage clean and contaminated theatre instruments, maintaining hygiene and infection control standards.
• Deliver stock, linen, food items and post to designated departments using roll cages, pallets, and trolleys.
• Ensure timely and secure delivery of pharmacy supplies to wards and departments in line with Trust procedures.
• Operate a company 3.5-tonne vehicle safely and responsibly, adhering to road safety regulations and delivery schedules.
• Pick, pack, and prepare linen for hospital wards, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Scan and book in incoming orders using internal systems, ensuring accurate receipting and distribution.

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the forward-thinking Logistics and Supply Chain team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. This key operational role supports the smooth and efficient delivery of essential services across hospital departments. We have a positions avialable working 37.5 hours per week Monday- Friday, shift patterns 07:00 - 15:00 and 13:00 - 21:00

As a Material Movement Operative, you will work in a fast-paced Logistics environment, contributing to the timely movement of goods, waste, and critical supplies across multiple sites.

The opportunity is available across two sites, the successful applicant will work systematically to ensure just in time delivery to all operational areas, whilst striving to continuously improve the service offered by the Logistics and Supply Chain Team as a whole.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

• Collect, handle, and manage waste materials from theatres, wards, and clinical areas, ensuring safe and compliant disposal procedures are followed.
• Transport and manage clean and contaminated theatre instruments, maintaining strict hygiene, safety, and infection control standards.
• Deliver stock, linen, food items (e.g. bread and milk), and post to designated departments using roll cages, pallets, and trolleys.
• Ensure timely and secure delivery of pharmacy supplies to wards and departments in line with Trust procedures.
• Operate a company 3.5-tonne vehicle safely and responsibly, adhering to road safety regulations and delivery schedules.
• Pick, pack, and prepare linen for hospital wards, ensuring accuracy, hygiene standards, and timely delivery.
• Scan and book in incoming orders using internal systems, ensuring accurate receipting, tracking, and prompt distribution to relevant departments.
• Pharmacy/Chemotherapy Deliveries
• Receipting and distribution of parcels.
• Ad hoc tasks such as collecting furniture for scrap
• In house LLOP/tug training.
