Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Theatre Support role in the Trauma theatres. You will assist with patient care under the direct supervision of a registered Theatre Practitioner and embark on appropriate training.

The post is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, part of a seven-day service. This permanent, full-time position is Band 2 with a salary of £25,272 per year, and requires excellent communication, teamwork and a patient-centred

• Operate within Trauma theatres covering a seven day service.

Job Summary

To work as an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team within the Trauma theatres assisting with patient care activities under the direct supervision of a registered Theatre Practitioner. Following appropriate training and assessment of competence undertake identified and delegated clinical and non-clinical duties.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

• Maintain up to date knowledge of changes to policy and procedure relevant to the post.
• Use initiative in planning daily and weekly routines and prioritising own workload.
• Carry out expected role without the need of constant supervision and direction.
• Promote a professional, welcoming, and caring environment.
• Recognise the importance of personal contribution to morale.
• Maintain patient and always staff confidentiality
• Assist with the care and treatment of patients whilst in the department promoting patient safety, comfort, privacy and dignity and confidentiality.
• Obtain consent from patients prior to conducting any intervention and where this is withheld seek advice or support from a registered practitioner.
• Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control practice by adhering to policies and procedures and supporting the maintenance of a clean clinical environment.
• When required undertake collection and delivery of items within the Trust (Blood products ,specimens ,instrumentation ,

Experience

• Recent previous experience in a care environment
• Experience of working / participating as part of a team.
• Evidence of ability to work using own initiative and under minimal supervision
• Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the role and tasks involved
• Can articulate the reasons for training/ standards of practice and behaviour and how these may be demonstrated / relate to patient care and safety
• Shows enthusiasm for the role and is interested in working in a theatre environment
