Job summary

Matchtech seeks an experienced Backup Miner / Excavator Operator for an active tunnelling project in Worksop. Start 5th October 2026; duration through mid-January 2027. Role involves working in deep shafts and shaft sinking operations, with valid Excavator Ticket and strong underground safety awareness.

Ideal candidates have proven mining experience, knowledge of sheet piling, caissons, and surrounding structures, and are comfortable in 15m shaft environments on a temporary contract basis.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Backup Miner/Miner in tunnelling environments.
• Strong background in active tunnelling and underground works.
• Valid Excavator Ticket and experience operating excavators in shafts or tunnels.
• Experience with shaft sinking and pit bottom operations.
• Ideally familiar with jacked caissons and sheet piling.
• Comfortable working in deep shafts (~15m) and adherence to underground safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate excavators in deep shaft or tunnelling environments.
• Support shaft sinking and pit bottom operations.
• Follow underground health and safety procedures and site qualifications.

Requirements

• Proven experience working as a Backup Miner / Miner
• Strong background in active tunnelling and underground works
• Valid Excavator Ticket
• Experience operating an excavator within shaft or tunnelling environments
• Experience with shaft sinking and pit bottom operations
• Ideally experienced with jacked caissons
• Experience working with or around sheet piling
• Comfortable working in deep shafts of approximately 15m
• Relevant tunnelling and site qualifications
• Strong understanding of underground health and safety procedures
