Job summary

Matchtech Group is seeking an experienced Backup Miner with an Excavator Ticket to join an active tunnelling project in the East Midlands.

Start Date: 5 October 2026; Duration: until mid-January 2027; Project: Active tunnelling and shaft works.

You will operate excavators in shaft and tunnelling environments, ensure health and safety compliance, and support shaft sinking and pit bottom operations. Strong problem solving and teamwork are essential to coordinate with the site team.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Backup Miner and Miner
• Strong background in active tunnelling and underground works
• Valid Excavator Ticket
• Experience operating an excavator within shaft or tunnelling environments
• Experience with shaft sinking and pit bottom operations
• Ideally experienced with jacked caissons
• Experience working with or around sheet piling
• Comfortable working in deep shafts of approximately 15m
• Relevant tunnelling and site qualifications
• Strong understanding of underground health and safety procedures
