Job summary

Active Tunnelling on the A42 is seeking an experienced Backup Miner to join a pipejacking/tunnelling project from 2 November 2026 to 28 December 2026. You will support the Lead Miner and work within shafts and pits, contributing to tunnelling and shaft works while upholding rigorous site safety standards.

The role requires reliable teamwork, strong pipejacking and underground experience, and a solid understanding of site safety procedures to ensure smooth project execution.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working as a Backup Miner.
• Strong pipejacking experience.
• Experience working in shafts and pits.
• Previous tunnelling experience.
• Reliable and able to work well as part of a tunnelling team.
• Good understanding of underground working and site safety.

Responsibilities

• Support the Lead Miner and tunnelling team on site.

We are looking for an experienced Backup Miner to join an Active Tunnelling project on the A42, starting 2nd November through to 28th December.

Duties will include:

• Supporting the Lead Miner and tunnelling team
• Working on pipejacking operations
• Working within shafts and pits
• Assisting with tunnelling and shaft works
• Supporting the team with general mining duties
• Following all site health and safety procedures

Requirements:

• Previous experience working as a Backup Miner
• Strong pipejacking experience
• Experience working in shafts and pits
• Previous tunnelling experience
• Relevant tunnelling/site qualifications
• Good understanding of underground working and site safety
• Reliable and able to work well as part of a tunnelling team
• Duration: Approximately 8 weeks
