GitLab is seeking a Backend Engineer for Source Code: Repository Services to help advance the repository layer across GitLab.com and self-managed instances. You’ll work with Ruby and GraphQL in a remote UK setting, focusing on reliability, performance, and security.

Join one of the oldest product areas, collaborating with product management, testing, security, and Gitaly teams to deliver scalable backend services and robust APIs. Strong English communication is essential in a distributed team.

Qualifications

• Proven backend development experience using Ruby and GraphQL.
• Experience with relational databases and data modeling.
• Experience writing tests and performing code reviews.
• Experience with AI coding agents is a plus.
• Excellent communication in English in async remote environments.

Responsabilités

• Develop secure, well-tested features using Ruby and GraphQL.
• Tackle complex requirements while maintaining reliability.
• Design and maintain backend services, APIs, data models and business logic.
• Collaborate with the Gitaly team and other Source Code groups.
• Monitor production health and contribute to on-call and observability.
• Review AI agent outputs and ensure code quality.
• Write maintainable code and participate in constructive code reviews.
