Job summary

EMBL-EBI on Wellcome Genome Campus invites a Software Engineer to design and build backend services for UniProt data and website. You will contribute to cloud infrastructure, scalable code, and APIs that support genomics and proteomics research.

The role requires 3+ years in backend development, Java/Python, SpringBoot, REST, and cloud experience. Hybrid work arrangement, with two days on-site and three from home, is available in Cambridgeshire.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
• At least 3 years of professional back-end software development.
• Experience with web cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with Agile methodologies.
• Good communication skills.
• Experience in Java and/or Python, RESTful services, SpringBoot.
• Experience in developing web infrastructure (Solr, Kubernetes).
• Experience with Git and basic Unix commands.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop software and APIs for UniProt data services and website.
• Maintain and monitor cloud infrastructure for the service.
• Ensure scalable, well-tested, well-documented code.
• Apply analytic engines to distributed processing of big data.
• Work toward tight deadlines while collaborating with scientists.
