Job summary

Octopus Energy is hiring backend engineers to join our Devices, Global Mobile and Low Carbon Tech teams in London, with remote UK options. You’ll design scalable backend services, integrate with Kraken platform services, and help drive a fast, observable, low-carbon tech stack across consumer apps and devices.

We value strong Python/Django skills, test-driven development, and a genuine curiosity for smart energy tech. Office-based in London is preferred but UK-wide remote work is possible.

Qualifications

• Backend development with Python and Django in production
• Experience with multi-tenant codebases and integrations
• Ability to ship frequently with automated checks and guardrails
• Interest in applying AI tools to development workflows
• Strong initiative and comfort with evolving requirements
• Curiosity about smart energy devices and home energy tech

Responsibilities

• Own medium-sized backend features and deliver production-ready code
• Ship code frequently with small PRs and minimal supervision
• Build/extend Django backend serving multiple countries from one codebase
• Integrate with Kraken platform services for billing, CRM, auth, and device control
• Identify and fix monitoring and observability gaps for reliability
• Engage in design reviews and document pull requests clearly
• Handle incident management and bug resolution in core domains
