Octopus Energy is seeking a Backend Engineer for its Global Backend Team. You will help shape the next generation of our energy tech stack, delivering robust backend services used by engineering teams worldwide.

The role emphasizes ownership, collaboration with marketing, operations, and data teams, and delivering tangible impact on lowering bills and enabling greener living. The role offers flexible working with a preference for the London office but remote candidates within the UK are welcome.

About the role At Octopus Tech, you'll have real ownership, variety, and the chance to shape products that make a tangible difference in people's lives - lowering bills, enabling greener living, and delivering experiences customers genuinely love. You'll work side by side with teams across marketing, operations, and data, and see the impact of your work in the real world, fast. We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Global Backend Team.

The Global Backend Team are the powerhouse behind our mission to build the future of energy tech, working on our new and rapidly growing backend retail codebase used by all Octopus Energy engineering teams around the world.

What you'll have

We're looking for someone with a general interest in technology and problem-solving; someone diligent and thoughtful. It would be helpful to have experience/expertise in the following (in rough priority order):

• Python
• Django (or equiv. web framework)
• Domain modelling
• GraphQL
• Writing robust and fault-tolerant software
• Celery and async processing
• Postgres

Plus experience in the following would be a bonus:

• AWS
• Kubernetes

We would prefer someone who can work in our London office but will consider remote candidates. However, you do need to be able to work in the UK.
