Job summary

A&O Shearman is seeking a Database and DevOps engineer to maintain our MS SQL Server landscape across Azure, AVS and on‑prem environments. The role emphasizes high availability, performance tuning and data reliability for critical applications.

You will work with Linux servers, PowerShell scripting, and DevOps tooling including GitHub, collaborating with global teams and supporting upskilling across the service desk.

Qualifications

• Proficiency with MS SQL Server and Azure SQL Server.
• Experience with SQL AG, clustering and high availability.
• SQL and PowerShell scripting experience.
• SQL performance tuning and replication monitoring experience.
• Understanding of Linux server management.
• PowerShell, SQL and Linux programming experience is valued.
• Knowledge of DevOps and GitHub tools.
• Strong communication and ability to document learnings and upskill teams.

Responsibilities

• Support databases for applications including finance, CRM, and time capture systems.
• Maintain MS-SQL infrastructure and collaborate with third parties.
• Support the Dynamics365 platform and related services.
• Package, configure, test and deploy applications to the firm.
• Work with service desk and other IT teams for production changes.
• Ensure availability, scalability and performance of database systems.
• Develop backup/restore procedures for major databases.
• Develop automation to turn repeatable actions into automated processes.
• Analyze database capacity and performance; lead related projects.
• Participate in on-call and out-of-hours support.
