Job summary

Genomics England is seeking a Platform Engineer focused on AWS to design, build and optimise our cloud platform. You will work in a high-impact Cloud Platform Team owning AWS organisation, Landing Zone and cloud governance, delivering scalable, secure infrastructure for our genomics initiatives.

You will automate CI/CD pipelines with GitLab CI/CD, use Terraform and Ansible for IaC, and collaborate across engineering chapters to enable teams while maintaining standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience as a Platform Engineer or similar role within a DevOps environment.
• Minimum 2 years' commercial experience with AWS; certifications welcomed.
• Minimum 2 years' experience with Terraform for infrastructure automation.
• Familiar with automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
• Interest in enabling application teams and promoting a self-service model.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a DevOps team to drive automation and continuous improvement.
• Provide in-hours support to platform engineers for day-to-day changes.
• Develop and maintain Engineering Golden Path templates and enablement.
• Own and enhance cloud infrastructure on AWS for scalability, security and reliability.
• Develop, maintain and optimise CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD, with Terraform and Ansible.
• Implement IaC to automate deployments and reduce manual work.
• Contribute to cloud governance, including security, cost management and compliance.
• Build reusable platform components, templates and standards for teams.
• Monitor system performance and proactively identify issues.
• Troubleshoot platform issues to minimize downtime.
• Influence engineering decisions with a collaborative culture.
