Job summary

Genomics England is seeking a Platform Engineer to design, build and optimise our AWS cloud platform, focusing on automation, infrastructure as code, and scalable, secure solutions. You will join the Cloud Platform Team (CCoE), work on CI/CD pipelines with GitLab, and help mentor engineers while delivering platform improvements that support the NHS Genomics programs.

The role offers hybrid working across Canary Wharf, Cambridge and Leeds, with generous leave and a broad benefits package.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience as Platform Engineer/DevOps in a cloud environment.
• 2+ years' AWS experience; certifications welcomed.
• 2+ years' experience with Terraform for infrastructure automation.
• Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
• Interest in mentoring application teams on cloud best practices.
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD and DevOps concepts.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a DevOps team to drive automation and continuous improvement.
• Own and enhance cloud-based infrastructure on AWS, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD and IaC with Terraform and Ansible.
• Contribute to cloud governance, cost management and security policies across teams.
• Support wider organisation in cloud adoption by building reusable platform components and standards.
