Job summary

DVSA is seeking a Lead Platform Engineer to shape and deliver the technical strategy for large-scale digital services, ensuring they are secure, resilient, scalable and cost-effective. You’ll lead a code-first approach to infrastructure and drive platform delivery across multiple teams in the Newcastle‑upon‑Tyne area.

The role focuses on AWS as the primary platform, with Azure awareness,IaC, CI/CD and automation.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with AWS, Linux, Docker, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Puppet, and AWS Landing Zone.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with cloud and SaaS integration in complex environments.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical leadership and align teams with the Principal Cloud Engineer’s strategy.
• Lead the establishment, definition and governance of DevOps standards across the lifecycle (IaC, CI/CD).
• Mentor engineers and testers, uplifting capability across teams.
• Design and architect highly available, secure cloud services on AWS (Azure awareness).
• Drive IaC automation using Terraform, Puppet and Ansible to improve delivery.
• Own end-to-end delivery from concept to live deployment and manage pre-production environments.
