Founded in 1712 in Greenwich, London, it moved to its spectacular site, set in 200 acres of Suffolk countryside overlooking the River Stour, in 1933.

The School has continued to develop its spectacular purpose-built site and has grown in size and reputation to become one of East Anglia's leading independent schools.

The Royal Hospital School has the following vacancy to start as soon as possible:

AV & THEATRE TECHNICIAN

The Royal Hospital School is looking for a passionate and versatile AV & Theatre Technician to join our thriving performing arts team. This is a particularly exciting time to join RHS: September 2025 sees the reopening of our fully refurbished Assembly Hall, and the department is preparing for a major production of Les Misérables in November 2025.

The role offers the chance to work alongside talented Drama and Music colleagues and pupils in a nationally recognised performing arts setting. You’ll support productions, concerts, academic lessons and promotional events with technical expertise, creativity and care. This is an ideal opportunity for a technician with specialist knowledge in theatre lighting or sound, who enjoys working with young people and has the confidence to take the lead on a wide range of AV and performance-based projects.

Key responsibilities include:

Managing and operating AV and theatre facilities across the School

Supporting and advising staff and pupils on AV systems and technical requirements

Delivering all technical aspects of school productions, events, and performances

Supporting the creative development of pupils’ performance work

Leading or assisting extra-curricular AV and technical theatre activities

Maintaining and managing AV, lighting, and staging equipment

What we're looking for:

Practical knowledge of theatre lighting, sound, and AV systems

Experience working on live performance and events

A positive, flexible approach with strong organisational skills

Creativity and a genuine enthusiasm for supporting pupil performance

(Desirable) Experience in a school or similar educational environment

In return, we offer:

A contributory pension scheme (up to 7.5%)

Generous staff fee remission

Access to school facilities including gym, swimming pool, and golf course

On-site lunches during term time

A supportive and collaborative working environment

Closing date 09:00 on Friday 30 May

Interviews will be held on Wednesday 11 June 2025

Employment is subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974.
